Rooted in the independent music scene of the Philippines, the collective behind the pop album Orange & Lemons first came together in 1999, founded by singer-songwriter and guitarist Clem Castro alongside drummer Ace Del Mundo and his brother JM del Mundo, who took up bass for the group’s earliest iterations. Mcoy Fundales joined as a second vocalist from the group’s formation, remaining a core member through the end of the band’s first active run in 2007. The group’s sound wove together strains of alternative rock, indie pop, and experimental music, shaped heavily by a range of well-respected cross-generational acts that left indelible marks on their creative perspective: The Smiths, The Beatles, and local Filipino icons the Eraserheads, all of whom influenced how the group approached songwriting, arrangement, and sonic texture across every project they released.
