Filipino indie and alternative rock mainstays Orange & Lemons first came together in 1999, when singer-songwriter and guitarist Clem Castro joined forces with drummer Ace Del Mundo and his brother JM del Mundo, who took on bass duties to round out the core early trio. From their earliest recordings, the band wove together a rich sonic tapestry that pulled from alternative rock, indie pop, and experimental strains, drawing clear and intentional influence from across generations of boundary-pushing groups: The Smiths, The Beatles, and Filipino rock icons Eraserheads, all of whom left their mark on the band’s evolving discography. For the first eight years of their run, the group counted Mcoy Fundales as a second vocalist, a role he held from the band’s formation through their 2007 split, a break brought on by irreconcilable musical differences that put their collaborative work on hold for a full decade.
