Pop, the core genre of the Filipino sound Fade, is rooted in the decades-long creative legacy of Orange & Lemons, a group whose career has been defined by cross-genre curiosity, widespread critical and commercial acclaim, and a deep connection to the local and international artists that shaped their approach to songcraft from their earliest days. Formed in 1999 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Clem Castro alongside drummer Ace Del Mundo and his brother JM del Mundo on bass, the group built its early sound around a mix of alternative rock, indie pop and experimental music, drawing heavy influence from well-respected cross-generational bands that left indelible marks on global and local independent music: UK post-punk pioneers The Smiths, timeless pop architects The Beatles, and seminal Filipino rock group The Eraserheads. From its formation, the band counted former member Mcoy Fundales as its second vocalist, a role he held through the group’s initial run that concluded in 2007.
