Orange & Lemons formed in 1999 in the Philippines, built around the creative core of singer-songwriter and guitarist Clem Castro, who brought together drummer Ace Del Mundo and his brother JM del Mundo on bass to launch the group that would shape a distinct, widely beloved strand of local popular music for decades. From its earliest days, the group counted Mcoy Fundales as a core member, serving as the band’s second vocalist from its formation through its first run, which concluded in 2007. Throughout that first era of activity, the band wove together a rich, layered sound rooted in a mix of alternative rock, indie pop, and experimental music, drawing heavy inspiration from a cross-generational slate of critically respected acts that spanned global icons like The Beatles and The Smiths, as well as trailblazing Filipino icons the Eraserheads, whose work laid the groundwork for decades of local rock and pop acts to come.
