Hailed as the Album of the Year at the 2007 NU Rock Awards, Moonlane Gardens capped a prolific first run for one of the Philippines’ most definitive indie pop and alternative rock acts, whose catalog spans chart-topping full-lengths, career-spanning reunions, and new creative iterations that continue to evolve their signature sound, including the pop recording Bituing Marikit. Orange & Lemons first formed in 1999, assembled by singer-songwriter and guitarist Clem Castro alongside drummer Ace Del Mundo and his brother JM del Mundo, who took up bass. The early core lineup welcomed Mcoy Fundales as a second vocalist from the group’s founding, a member who would stay with the band through its first era of recording and performance until the group parted ways in 2007, split by emerging musical differences that put their decade of collaborative work on an extended hiatus.
