Universal Records Philippines, Inc. was established in 1977 as a division of Warner Music Group, later becoming an independent entity in 1992 and joining the Philippine Association of the Record Industry. The label has cultivated a diverse roster of Filipino artists throughout its history, including prominent figures such as Gary Valenciano, Regine Velasquez, Christian Bautista, and Sponge Cola. One notable signing was the pop-rock band Sponge Cola in 2003, whose debut album, *Palabas*, achieved double platinum status and garnered significant accolades, including Album of the Year at the NU107 Rock Awards. Leadership at Universal Records saw a shift in 2005 when Kathleen Dy-Go took on the roles of general manager and later managing director. The label expanded its scope in 2018 with the launch of Mustard Music, a sub-label specifically designed to champion homegrown independent acts.
