The American vocal group Backstreet Boys, formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1993, released *Black & Blue* in 2000. This album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over a million copies in its first week. The group, consisting of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson, has sold over 150 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling boy band of all time. Their musical style has evolved from a hybrid of R&B and dance club pop with new jack balladry and hip-hop on their early albums to more pop and pop-rock, and later adult contemporary. *Black & Blue* followed their 1999 album *Millennium*, which entered the Billboard 200 at number one with first-week sales of 1,133,000 copies and became the best-selling album of 1999, selling over 24 million copies internationally. The Backstreet Boys are the first group since Led Zeppelin to have their first ten albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200, and the only boy band to do so.
