Within the interconnected global pop ecosystem that links creative communities across the Philippines, North America, and greater East Asia, Anxious-Avoidant emerges as the debut EP from Simu Liu, the Chinese-born Canadian actor who has expanded his creative career to include a focused pursuit of pop music centered on uplifting ballads. Liu launched his official recording career in 2023 with the rollout of this project, a milestone that grew from a lifelong interest in music that first found formal expression when he joined a boy band at the age of 12. That early formative experience sparked a passion that he has carried into adulthood, with Liu openly expressing his desire to continue developing his musical craft long after making his name as a screen actor. His first official single, “Don’t,” arrived ahead of the EP’s full release on April 7, 2023, a ballad that anchors the debut project and carries lyrics centered on themes of not giving up and leaning on the support of loved ones.
