Simu Liu, the Chinese-born Canadian actor who has built a second creative career as a pop musician centered on uplifting ballads, first nurtured his musical aspirations from childhood, a lifelong dream of working as a professional artist that he opened up about in March 2023, when he shared that his first experience performing in a structured music setting came at age 12, when he joined a boy band that let him develop his vocal and performance skills long before his on-screen career took off. Long before he launched his official recording career, Liu contributed musically to major film projects, first recording the track “Hot Soup” for the soundtrack of *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings* in 2021, a release that some consider his debut track, and later stepping in as an uncredited vocalist on the Golden Globe-winning song “I’m Just Ken” from the *Barbie* movie soundtrack.
