Lifelong friends Zach Sobiech and Sammy Brown built their creative partnership from their base in Stillwater, Minnesota, coming together in 2012 to form the project that would carry their shared work to audiences far beyond their local community. Three years before the duo officially formed, in 2009, 14-year-old Sobiech received a diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that would redirect every part of his life, including his turn to songwriting as a tool to process the unthinkable, and to bridge the gap between his own experience and the loved ones who wanted to support him, but often struggled to find the right words to meet his fear and grief.
