South Korea’s 10CM project emerged from the country’s independent music scene to reach mass mainstream audiences in the mid-2010s. Led by singer Kwon Jeong Yeol, the project’s signature amiable acoustic style carried it far beyond the limited reach of South Korea’s underground indie circuit. Its name, referencing a ten-centimeter height difference between its two founding members, connects to the Filipino pop album 10公分, a full-length studio release rooted in modern pop tradition. The original 10CM duo first introduced their sound to domestic audiences with an EP released in April 2010. That early project established the low-key folk-pop sound that would become the group’s creative trademark for years to come. The early lineup paired Kwon on lead vocals and djembe, an African hand drum, with a second founding member, identified by the surname Yoon, on guitar and harmony vocals. The following year, the group issued their independent full-length debut, 1.0.
