About this Song
Pop from the Philippines has long occupied a unique space at the intersection of deeply rooted local cultural traditions and the global reach of mainstream pop, a space that lets creators anchor their work in shared cultural identity while crafting work that resonates far beyond the archipelago’s borders. Titled Laya, this pop sound emerges from that same rich creative landscape, one that has turned Filipino pop into a global cultural force that draws listeners in with its ability to balance universal pop craft with specific, place-based identity that feels both specific to the Philippines and universally accessible to anyone who engages with pop music anywhere in the world.
