"Tinikling" is a folk recording from the Philippines. It features a sound rooted in the traditional music of the archipelago. The recording draws its name from a folk dance that originated in the Philippines, which involves two individual performers beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles. The dance is often performed during festivals and special occasions as a celebration of Filipino culture and heritage. The rhythmic patterns and melodic structures within the recording reflect the indigenous musical practices of the Philippines, which often incorporate percussive elements and syncopated rhythms. The instrumentation typically includes indigenous instruments such as the kulintang, a set of horizontally laid gongs, or the gangsa, a flat gong, alongside other traditional instruments like the bamboo flute or various stringed instruments.
