Norwegian DJ and record producer Alan Walker, American singer Sabrina Carpenter, and Puerto Rican singer Farruko released "On My Way" as a single on March 21, 2019, through MER and Sony Music. The Moombahton song, composed in the key of C# minor with a tempo of 85 beats per minute, runs for 3 minutes and 13 seconds. Its instrumentation features electric guitar strums and a building beat that leads to a drop in the chorus. Farruko contributes a Spanish verse to the track, while Sabrina Carpenter's vocals are gentle yet powerful in conveying the song's theme of moving on from a difficult relationship. Alan Walker stated in an interview that the song is based on DJ Okawari's "Flower Dance." The music video for "On My Way" depicts a protagonist searching for a mysterious pattern of stones to uncover an ancient civilization. Alan Walker, known for hits like "Faded" and "Alone," often incorporates elements of electro house, future house, future bass, big room house, and progressive house into his music.
