Across the layered landscape of Philippine creative sound practice, works that take the shape of a mix carry a unique kind of intentionality, one that rejects the rigid boundaries of single-genre classification to hold space for the overlapping, intersecting currents of music that circulate within and beyond the archipelago’s islands, and this work, titled Kylo 🐾, exists firmly within that lineage of creative reconfiguration that has long defined independent and community-led sound making across the region. Unlike more linear, fixed recordings that present a single, cohesive artistic statement built from a finite set of recorded elements, a mix operates as a conversation between the creator and the vast archive of sound they pull from, a dialogue that unfolds across every transition, every shift in tone, every choice to lift up one strand of sound to sit alongside another that might otherwise never cross paths in a more traditional recording structure.
