From the Philippines, Gloc-9 is a trailblazer in the Pinoy Hip-Hop scene, regarded as one of the best Filipino rappers of all time. Known for his fast-flowing "chopper" vocal style, he has been described by fellow rapper Francis Magalona as "a blacksmith of words and letters, and a true Filipino poet." Gloc-9's songs often address social issues such as social injustices, poverty, and patriotism. He began his musical career with the gangsta rap group Death Threat in the 1990s, later releasing his debut solo album, *G9*, in 2003. His second album, *Ako Si...*, released in 2005, featured a more laid-back R&B sound, while the 2007 album *Diploma* included nu-metal-esque elements in songs like "The Task Is Done" and "Torpedo." His albums *MKNM: Mga Kwento Ng Makata* (2012) and *Liham at Lihim* (2013) have been certified Gold and Platinum, respectively, by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI).
