When the nine-member collective Ben&Ben first emerged on the Philippines’ music scene, they brought with them a creative vision that would upend expectations of what pop music could achieve, both culturally and artistically, over the course of less than a decade of work. From their earliest projects, the band centered storytelling that refused to limit itself to the narrow personal narratives often associated with mainstream pop, instead expanding their scope to weave together personal, emotional, and socio-political themes that spoke to the full breadth of the Filipino experience, and the universal human experience that connects listeners across borders and backgrounds. Every work they released carried underlying messages that prioritized the core threads of human connection, courage, hope, and vulnerability, balancing intimate explorations of individual struggle with sweeping, anthemic sound that could fill large venues and unite crowds of thousands in shared feeling.
