Rooted in Sidoarjo, the Indonesian creative collective Simpatik Music crafts hip-hop that carries distinct, locally rooted signatures, built on a deliberate fusion of sounds that tie the group to their regional context while leaning into the rhythmic backbone of the genre. Their track Sedang Sedang Saja, which pairs featured artists Ria Amelia and Aura Sekar, emerges from the collective’s collaborative studio process, with every layer of the sound shaped by in-house talent drawn from Simpatik Music’s extended roster of full-time musicians. The track’s songwriting is credited to Mara Karma and Eddy Lestaluhu, who frame the core of the work before it passes to the collective’s instrumentalists to bring the full arrangement to life. Every instrumental role on Sedang Sedang Saja is filled by a member of the Simpatik Music family, starting with Guk Matt Simpatik on kendang, whose work lays a foundational rhythm that anchors the track’s hip-hop core.
