Ravyn Lenae, an American singer-songwriter, draws from a musical background that includes singing in her church choir and studying classical and jazz music. Her mother's Panamanian heritage also connects to a family history in doo-wop. Lenae, a founding member of the Chicago collective Zero Fatigue, independently released her debut EP, *Moon Shoes*, in 2015, later reissued by Atlantic Records. Her music blends neo-soul, R&B, electronic, jazz, psychedelia, and hip-hop, citing Erykah Badu as a main influence. The jazz recording "Love Me Not" was released on May 3, 2024, as a lead single from her critically acclaimed second studio album, *Bird's Eye*, which expanded her sound beyond R&B roots to incorporate elements of acoustic rock and light reggae. The song itself has been described as R&B, "soul-rock," indie rock, grungy, and "retro pop." An official remix of "Love Me Not" featuring British singer Rex Orange County was released on October 8, 2024.
