Katy Perry’s 2013 dance-inspired album, *Prism*, yielded two U.S. number-one singles, one of which was "Roar." Perry, born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in Santa Barbara, California, initially pursued gospel music, releasing her debut album, *Katy Hudson*, in 2001 under her birth name. After adopting the stage name Katy Perry to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson, she signed with Capitol Records in 2007. Her breakthrough came with the pop-rock album *One of the Boys* in 2008, featuring the hit single "I Kissed a Girl." Her 2010 album, *Teenage Dream*, became the only album by a woman to produce five U.S. number-one singles. Perry is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of over 151 million records worldwide.
