Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" emerged as a breakthrough pop-rock single in 2008, topping the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The track is from her album *One of the Boys*, which, despite mixed critical reviews, sold seven million copies worldwide. Perry, born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in California, initially pursued gospel music, releasing her debut album *Katy Hudson* in 2001. After its commercial failure, she adopted her mother's maiden name, signing with Capitol Records in 2007. Later, her 2010 album, *Teenage Dream*, made history as the only album by a woman to produce five U.S. number-one singles, including "California Gurls" and "Firework." The reissue, *The Complete Confection*, added another chart-topper with "Part of Me." Her 2013 dance-inspired album *Prism* yielded "Roar" and "Dark Horse," both U.S. number-one singles. Perry has since released *Witness* (2017), *Smile* (2020), and *143* (2024), and remains one of the best-selling music artists globally.
