Katy Perry's 2013 dance-inspired album, *Prism*, yielded two U.S. number-one singles, including "Dark Horse," which features Juicy J. Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, Perry initially pursued gospel music, releasing her debut album, *Katy Hudson*, in 2001 under her birth name. After moving to Los Angeles at age 17, she adopted the stage name Katy Perry, using her mother's maiden name to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson. Perry signed with Capitol Records in 2007, and her breakthrough came with the 2008 pop-rock album *One of the Boys*, featuring the hit single "I Kissed a Girl," which topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. *One of the Boys* sold seven million copies worldwide. Her 2010 album, *Teenage Dream*, became the only album by a woman to produce five U.S. number-one singles. The reissue of *Teenage Dream*, subtitled *The Complete Confection* (2012), included the U.S. number-one single "Part of Me." Perry's subsequent albums include *Witness* (2017), *Smile* (2020), and *143* (2024).
