About this Song
Folk music occupies a central role in the cultural landscape of the Philippines, a form that has grown and shifted alongside the archipelago’s centuries of social, political, and environmental change, remaining a touchstone for communities across the country’s 7,000+ islands and the millions of Filipino people who have built lives across the globe. The country’s folk canon is not a monolith, but a collection of distinct regional traditions, each shaped by the unique histories and ways of life of the ethnic groups that have called the islands home for millennia.
