The Smile, an English rock band, is composed of Radiohead members Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, bass, keys) and Jonny Greenwood (guitar, bass, keys), alongside Tom Skinner (drums) from Sons of Kemet. Formed in 2018, the band’s name is inspired by a poem by Ted Hughes. They developed their sound during the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, making a surprise debut in May 2021 with a performance streamed by the Glastonbury Festival. Critics have frequently drawn comparisons between The Smile's music and Radiohead's, noting the incorporation of jazz, krautrock, and progressive rock influences, which contribute to a looser and wilder overall sound. Their debut album, *A Light for Attracting Attention*, released in May 2022, was met with critical acclaim and reached number five on the UK Albums Chart. Nigel Godrich, Radiohead's long-time producer, produced the album.
