The English rock band The Smile, formed by Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood with Sons of Kemet's Tom Skinner, emerged in 2018, cultivating their sound during the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. Their surprise debut came via a Glastonbury Festival streamed performance in May 2021. Critics frequently draw parallels between The Smile's music and Radiohead's, yet they also highlight the former's incorporation of jazz, krautrock, and progressive rock influences, contributing to a looser, more unbridled sonic character. The band's name itself, "The Smile," is inspired by a poem from Ted Hughes. Their debut album, *A Light for Attracting Attention*, released in May 2022, garnered critical acclaim and reached number five on the UK Albums Chart. Nigel Godrich, Radiohead's long-time producer, helmed this project. Singles from this album included "You Will Never Work in Television Again," "The Smoke," "Skrting on the Surface," "Pana-vision," "Free in the Knowledge," and "Thin Thing.
