He was born on October 5, 1987, in Los Angeles, California. Francis debuted as a DJ in 2010. He is known for popularizing moombahton and developing its subgenres, moombahcore and EDM trap. His early releases, such as 2011's "Westside!", explored and popularized moombahton, a fusion of Dutch house and reggaeton. He developed moombahton into a harder style called moombahcore with releases like 2012's *Something, Something, Awesome*. In 2012, he became the first moombahton artist to reach number one on the Beatport releases chart with his EP *Something, Something, Awesome*. His 2012 single "Masta Blasta (The Rebirth)" also incorporated trap music. Dillon Francis's debut studio album, *Money Sucks, Friends Rule*, was released in 2014 through Mad Decent and Columbia Records.
