Actually Romantic
About this Song
Actually Romantic emerges from the rich, multifaceted landscape of South African pop, a creative sphere that has long shaped both local cultural life and global understandings of popular music from the African continent. The work sits within a long line of pop creations from South Africa that balance engagement with global pop’s most resonant structural and creative tendencies with a distinct sense of place, one that draws from the country’s diverse array of cultural identities, ancestral traditions, and modern urban creative hubs that draw creators and audiences from every corner of the nation and far beyond its borders. South African pop as a genre does not fit into any single narrow box, and works like Actually Romantic contribute to that breadth, offering a creation that fits seamlessly within the broader umbrella of pop while carrying the unique imprint of the context from which it arose.
