The Dissection of Eve emerges from the Philippines’ vibrant, endlessly iterative pop ecosystem, a space that has spent decades balancing global pop’s universal commercial and creative impulses with the distinct cultural, social, and artistic priorities that define creative work coming out of the Southeast Asian archipelago. Pop as a genre is often misunderstood as a monolith, a uniform set of sounds and narratives designed exclusively for the widest possible audience, but that framing erases the way creators working in pop, particularly creators from regions outside the global industry’s traditional Western hubs, have reshaped the genre to carry their own perspectives, questions, and stories.
