About this Song
The R&B recording "luther" from the Philippines features Kendrick Lamar and SZA, who released the song as the third track from Lamar's sixth studio album, *GNX* (2024). This collaboration, later released as a single on November 29, 2024, is a love ballad about imagining a better future for one's partner or loved ones. The song is named after American R&B singer Luther Vandross and samples Luther and Cheryl Lynn's 1982 rendition of "If This World Were Mine." Music critics lauded "luther" for the vocal chemistry between Lamar and SZA, highlighting it as a tender and heartfelt track. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for five consecutive weeks, marking Kendrick's sixth and SZA's third number-one song, and is the longest-running chart-topping song for both artists. The official music video for "luther" was released on April 11, 2025, and was directed by Karena Evans.
