About this Song
R&B, a genre that emerged from Black American communities in the mid-20th century before spreading across the globe to be reworked, expanded, and reimagined by creators in every region that embraced it, has taken root in the Philippines as one of the most dynamic and widely explored contemporary musical forms, with a generation of creators building on the genre’s core focus on connection, vulnerability, and rhythmic richness to craft work that speaks to their own experiences, while tying into the decades-long lineage of Filipino artists experimenting with R&B’s flexible structure.
