Rooted in Manila’s thriving local music ecosystem, the six-piece folk-pop band Sugarcane built their public identity on a foundation of heartfelt storytelling and a one-of-a-kind fusion of folk textures and purposeful, evocative lyricism that sets them apart from many of their peers in the Philippines’ modern pop scene. The band’s lineup, which brings together a diverse range of instrumental and vocal talents to shape their distinct sound, includes Cedric Angeles, who handles vocals and guitar; Carl Guerzon, who contributes vocals and bass; Ronamae Tiñola, who brings a distinctive folk core to the group’s work on flute; Frain Reyes on lead guitar; Luis Beato on keyboard; and Froilan Bautista on drums.
