This pop recording from the Philippines, "For Good - Commentary," offers insight into the work of composer Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz, who studied piano and composition at Juilliard as a high schooler, earned a drama degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1968. He later became a producer and A&R man for RCA Records, achieving his first major success with the title song from the play *Butterflies Are Free*. After leaving RCA, he contributed music and lyrics to *Godspell*, a 1971 hit that earned him two Grammys. Schwartz also wrote lyrics for Leonard Bernstein's *Mass* and premiered *Pippin* in 1972, directed by Bob Fosse, which enjoyed a five-year Broadway run. With the 1974 premiere of *The Magic Show*, Schwartz became the first composer to have three shows running on Broadway simultaneously. He later returned to Broadway in 1978 with *Working*, adapting the script and songs and directing the production. After a hiatus, Schwartz wrote lyrics for Charles Strouse's score for *Rags* in 1986.
