The pop recording “Every Day More Wicked - Commentary” from the Philippines is an exploration of the musical theater work of Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz, born in New York City on March 6, 1948, studied piano and composition at Juilliard as a high school student. He later earned a drama degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1968, where he wrote several student-produced musical shows. After graduation, Schwartz was hired as a producer and A&R man for RCA Records, where he achieved his first major success with the title song from the play *Butterflies Are Free*. Following his two years at RCA, Schwartz was invited to contribute music and new lyrics for *Godspell*, a show that became a massive hit in 1971 and earned him two Grammys. Later that year, he wrote the lyrics to Leonard Bernstein's *Mass*. In 1972, a revised version of *Pippin*, a show he had begun working on in college, premiered; directed by Bob Fosse, *Pippin* was another success, enjoying a five-year Broadway run.
