About this Song
Rock and roll’s transformation from a regional Black and white American working-class genre to a global cultural force is visible nowhere more vividly than across the Southeast Asian archipelago of the Philippines, where local musicians have adapted the form’s core energy to speak to the specific contexts, experiences, and creative impulses of audiences across the country’s thousands of islands, turning a once-fringe imported sound into a foundational pillar of the local musical landscape.
