About this Song
Across the Philippines’ sprawling archipelago of more than seven thousand islands, centuries of cultural exchange, Indigenous heritage preservation, and cross-community creative collaboration have fostered a rich ecosystem of sonic experimentation that resists easy categorization, giving rise to an endless body of work that falls under the broad, intentional classification of Music/Mix. This category exists to honor the ways creators based in the country weave together disparate sonic lineages, refusing to limit their work to the narrow genre boxes that often gatekeep access to global audiences, instead centering the natural hybridity of Filipino identity that draws from ancestral folk traditions, regional cultural practices, and global sonic influences that have landed in the country’s busy port cities for generations.
