About this Song
Stretching across more than 7,000 distinct islands, the Philippines holds a vast network of overlapping musical lineages that shape every kind of sound created within and connected to its local communities, providing a rich, dynamic frame for the work captured in Alive. This sound, categorized as Music/Mix, grows directly from that context, leaning into the longstanding tendency of creators based across the archipelago to pull from distinct, place-specific sonic traditions that travel alongside people as they move between islands, between urban and rural centers, and between local and global spheres, without ever prioritizing one set of influences over another to force a narrow, pre-defined genre label.
