About this Song
R&B as a genre has long transcended its earliest regional origins to become a global creative force, adapted and reimagined by creators in every corner of the world, each bringing their own relationship to the core structural and creative throughlines that define the genre while rooting their work in the cultural landscapes that shape their creative practices. What began as a distinct sound emerging from interwoven Black musical traditions in the mid-20th century has grown into a framework that welcomes endless reinterpretation, its flexible boundaries allowing creators to infuse their own cultural reference points, creative priorities, and artistic perspectives into work that carries the genre’s foundational spirit while feeling entirely new.
