About this Song
Mabagal anchors a cross-section of pop practice that has evolved over decades within the Philippines, weaving into the archipelago’s rich tapestry of creative output that balances global pop sensibilities with the unique cultural currents that shape artistic creation across the nation’s many islands. Pop as a category of music made in the Philippines draws from a wide range of cultural influences that have converged in the archipelago for centuries, from indigenous creative traditions passed down through generations of artists and communities, to global artistic movements that have been reimagined and remade to fit the specific needs, experiences, and perspectives of Filipino creators and audiences alike.
