About this Song
Rooted in the rich, interconnected network of Filipino R&B creators that has spent decades refining and reimagining the genre’s core tenets for local and global audiences alike, the artist behind Extra Large draws on the full breadth of that community’s collective history to shape every layer of their work. Long before this recording took shape, the artist built their creative foundation within that same network, absorbing the lessons of the generations of Filipino creators who turned R&B into one of the most enduring, widely resonant genres in the country’s musical landscape. They learned how local creators had taken the core structural and emotional throughlines of R&B, a form that has traveled across continents and cultures to find new life in nearly every corner of the world, and wove into those foundations the specific cultural nuances that shape life across the Philippine archipelago.
