Six high school students at Manila’s Ateneo High School first came together to form a group originally named Comic Relief, built around a shared love of reimagining well-known songs through playful, irreverent parodies that set them apart from local peers at the time. The six students — vocalist Chito Miranda, back-up singer and dancer Vinci Montaner, guitarists Darius Semana and Gab CheeKee, bassist Buwi Meneses, and drummer Dindin Moreno — would adopt the name Parokya Ni Edgar, or the Parish of Edgar, growing from those early high school jam sessions to become the Philippines’ reigning court jesters of pop, crafting witty pop-punk tracks that lean into often unexpected, strange subject matter to resonate with both underground and mainstream audiences across the country.
