This pop recording from the Philippines, "Si Aiza, Si Norma, At Si Jen," emerges from a musical landscape known for its witty pop-punk and often strange subject matter. The sound is associated with a group that formed in Ateneo High School in Manila, specializing in performing parodies of well-known songs. Originally, the group was called Comic Relief, and its members included a vocalist, a back-up singer and dancer, two guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer. In 1994, the group began performing at Club Dredd, a hotbed for alternative music in Manila. Their oddball outfits and goofy stage antics quickly made them local favorites within the scene. The group eventually signed with Universal, a move facilitated by Richard Tan, who also managed Philippine punk groups like the Youth and Teeth. Robert Javier of The Youth produced the group's 1996 debut album, *KHANGKHUNGKHERRNitZ The Album*. This unusually titled album achieved platinum status within six months of its release.
