Parokya Ni Edgar, the Philippines’ reigning court jesters of pop-punk, frame every entry in their wide-ranging discography—including Nakapunta Ka Na Sa America? (Filler)—around the same balance of irreverent humor, unexpected creative choices, and deep connection to both local underground and mainstream Filipino audiences that turned their scrappy high school project into one of the country’s most enduring musical acts. The band first came together at Manila’s Ateneo High School, when six students—vocalist Chito Miranda, backup singer and dancer Vinci Montaner, guitarists Darius Semana and Gab CheeKee, bassist Buwi Meneses, and drummer Dindin Moreno—bonded over a shared love of subverting popular music, originally operating under the name Comic Relief, where they honed their craft performing playful parodies of globally famous tracks.
