Harana, the standout pop track from one of the Philippines’ most iconic homegrown bands, carries a legacy that stretches from small local Manila club stages to a global awards stage in New York City, capping years of sharp, playful, and often unpredictable work from the group that created it. Parokya Ni Edgar, which translates to Parish of Edgar, is widely known as the Philippines’ reigning court jesters, writing witty pop-punk songs that lean into often strange subject matter to win over both underground alternative fans and mainstream mass audiences. The band first formed at Manila’s Ateneo High School, when six students came together to pursue music: vocalist Chito Miranda, back-up singer and dancer Vinci Montaner, guitarists Darius Semana and Gab CheeKee, bassist Buwi Meneses, and drummer Dindin Moreno.
