A pop recording from the Philippines, "Halaga" emerges from a musical context shaped by witty pop-punk songs and often strange subject matter. The band responsible for this sound, Parokya Ni Edgar, formed in Ateneo High School in Manila, Philippines, initially under the name Comic Relief, specializing in performing parodies of well-known songs. This group, comprising vocalist Chito Miranda, back-up singer and dancer Vinci Montaner, guitarists Darius Semana and Gab CheeKee, bassist Buwi Meneses, and drummer Dindin Moreno, began performing at Manila's alternative music venue, Club Dredd, in 1994. Their distinctive oddball outfits and goofy stage antics quickly established them as local favorites. The band's journey led to a signing with Universal, facilitated by Richard Tan, who also managed Philippine punk groups the Youth and Teeth. Parokya Ni Edgar's 1996 debut, *KHANGKHUNGKHERRNitZ The Album*, produced by Robert Javier of The Youth, achieved platinum status within six months.
