About this Song
Pop music from the Philippines, titled "Christmas Bonus," features the credited artist Parokya Ni Edgar. The band, known for their witty pop-punk songs and often strange subject matter, formed in Ateneo High School in Manila. Vocalist Chito Miranda, back-up singer and dancer Vinci Montaner, guitarists Darius Semana and Gab CheeKee, bassist Buwi Meneses, and drummer Dindin Moreno made up the original six members. Initially named Comic Relief, the group specialized in performing parodies of well-known songs. In 1994, the band began performing at Club Dredd, a popular venue for alternative music in Manila. Their distinctive outfits and goofy stage antics quickly made them local favorites. Universal Records eventually signed the band, with the assistance of Richard Tan, who managed Philippine punk groups the Youth and Teeth. Robert Javier of the Youth produced Parokya Ni Edgar's 1996 debut, *KHANGKHUNGKHERRNitZ The Album*. This unusually titled album achieved platinum status within six months of its release.
