The Philippine pop recording "Buloy" is by Parokya Ni Edgar, a band known for often strange subject matter and witty pop-punk songs. Formed in Ateneo High School in Manila, the group specialized in performing parodies of well-known songs, originally under the name Comic Relief. After signing with Universal, the band released their 1996 debut, *KHANGKHUNGKHERRNitZ The Album*, which achieved platinum status in six months. The track "Buloy" became immensely popular, though its success later haunted the band: the song's troubled protagonist, a real-life friend, died by suicide as the lyrics described after the song's release.
