As a Pop recording from the Philippines, "Borbolen" continues the work of Parokya Ni Edgar, a band known for its witty pop-punk songs and often strange subject matter. The group formed in Ateneo High School in Manila, originally performing parodies of well-known songs. After signing with Universal, their 1996 debut, *KHANGKHUNGKHERRNitZ The Album*, went platinum in six months. Parokya Ni Edgar gained recognition for their irreverent antics, such as adapting melodies from artists like The Clash and Bob Dylan with humorous Tagalog lyrics. Their second album, *BURUGUDUYSTUNSTUGUDUNSTUY*, blended serious material with comedic elements. The band's "Harana" video was recognized as the Asian Viewers' Choice at the MTV awards in 1999.
