About this Song
The interconnected community of folk creators across the Philippines draws from a centuries-long lineage of shared cultural expression, a tradition rooted in gathering, narrative, and the preservation of collective identity that forms the artistic foundation for every folk work to emerge from the archipelago. This vast, diverse network of creators, whose practices are shaped by the distinct regional traditions spread across the country’s thousands of islands, carries forward core values that define Filipino folk music as a category, prioritizing connection to both cultural heritage and the lived experiences of the communities that keep the genre alive. Every work categorized within this tradition extends that lineage, adding a new thread to the ongoing tapestry of Filipino folk expression that continues to evolve alongside the people who create and engage with it.
