The Philippine acoustic band MYMP, an acronym for Make Your Mama Proud, was founded in late 1996 by Jacques "Chin" Alcantara. Initially a four-man rock band, MYMP transitioned to a pop sound in 2000 with the addition of a female vocalist. Marifil Niña Girado, later known as Nina, was an early female vocalist before pursuing a solo career, and Juris Fernandez joined as the lead vocalist in 2001. MYMP's recording career began after Raymond Ryan, a station manager for iFM, saw them perform and connected them with a producer. Their debut album, *Soulful Acoustic*, released in 2003 through Ivory Music and Video, achieved Platinum certification. In 2005, MYMP released two more albums, *Beyond Acoustic* and *Versions*, through Ivory Music. The success of these led to their re-release as a two-disc set in the same year.
