About this Song
Hip-pop, the genre that anchors the sound centered here, has built a vibrant, continuously evolving ecosystem within the Philippines, where creators reimagine the form’s core energies to speak to nuanced, locally rooted narratives while connecting to the global impulses that define the genre across borders. Side Chick, the sound that sits at the heart of this work, draws its identity from that distinctly Filipino iteration of hip-pop, leaning into the genre’s ability to balance broad, cross-cultural appeal with specific, grounded perspective that feels both rooted in the experiences of communities across the Philippines and accessible to audiences far beyond the archipelago’s shores.
